The Brenda Strafford Foundation is excited to share that three of our sites — Cambridge Manor, Tudor Manor, and the Wentworth Manor (Residence Building) — have officially achieved ENERGY STAR® Certification from Natural Resources Canada.
Last year, Wentworth Manor’s Court Building achieved certification, and we are proud to build on this work, continuing our commitment to sustainability and environmental stewardship.
Our certified buildings operate with at least 75% efficiency (compared to the national average of 50%), with Cambridge Manor that was also built LEED-certified operating at over 90% efficiency. BSF saves almost $800,000 annually compared to the national average. The annual savings in electricity is equivalent to the average amount of 262 homes in Calgary for a year or planting 327,364 trees.
All of this has been achieved while maintaining the comfort and care of our staff and residents.
And there’s more to celebrate, as Bow View Manor is also ready to go through the certification process which will involve benchmarking their energy use over the next 12 months.
We would like to send a big congratulations to our maintenance team for their dedication and hard work in achieving these certifications!
This progress was supported through our partnership with 8760, who helped our teams successfully navigate the certification process across multiple sites.
